EduIndex: Transforming Assessment Standards with AI for Global Educational Equity

Jagath Jaya Prakash

The diversity of assessment practices worldwide has long challenged educators and policymakers who seek fair and meaningful comparisons of student achievement. Local government policies and institutional guidelines create significant variation in how exams are designed and administered, resulting in inconsistent and often incomparable measures of student success (DeLuca et al., 2019; Lake et al., 2020). Traditional assessments, with their standardized “one-size-fits-all” format, typically overlook the diverse needs of learners and ignore socio-economic factors that perpetuate inequity, especially for under-resourced populations (Eden et al., 2024).

EduIndex, an AI-driven Exam Quality Index (EQI) platform, introduces a paradigm shift in educational assessment. Drawing on Universal Design for Learning (UDL) frameworks, EduIndex empowers educators to upload exam papers, which AI algorithms analyse for cognitive demand, clarity, complexity, and curriculum alignment. This process creates a standardized EQI score that takes into account the subject, grade, and region, allowing for a fairer comparison of academic performance. By accommodating learner diversity, UDL-centered design transforms assessment from a barrier into an avenue for inclusion (Roski et al., 2021).

The implications are profound. EduIndex analytics provide actionable data for educators, administrators, and policymakers—informing curriculum reform, resource allocation, and equitable grading. As an evolving global archive, the platform advances research while fostering broader adoption of inclusive standards in educational quality (UNESCO, 2020). By bridging the gap between raw scores and true learning, EduIndex promotes fairness and accessibility, signalling a future where every student’s achievement is truly understood.
